Preview: Geneva Motor Show Star Attraction

 

Derived from the Vignale concept at the Paris auto show in 2004, Ford unveils a version of its Focus-based convertible with a retractable hardtop. This vehicle is part of Ford’s plan to broaden the Focus product line. The Company has been without a medium-sized coupe or cabriolet since sales of the Escort cabriolet stopped in 1998.

The New Ford Focus Coupe-Cabriolet

The elegant yet practical Focus Coupé-Cabriolet is designed as a Grand Tourer, rather than a pure sports roadster – The vehicle is made its preview debut at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show and was one of the star attractions.


Ford received a favourable response to its Vignale concept car, which as prompted the company to make ready a production car, the Focus Coupe-Cabriolet in an impressive period of two years..

The Ford creative and engineering team as usual have not disappointed, and have presented the world with. an exciting new car. The vehicle was developed jointly by Ford of Europe and Italy 's Pininfarina, a company which enjoys a worldwide  for the excellent design.

Gunnar Herrmann, Vehicle Line Director for the Ford Focus said, "We wanted to keep the production model as true to the beautiful concept car as we could, while making it convenient and affordable for everyday use." The Focus Coupé-Cabriolet will go into volume production in mid-2006.


The Focus has earned accolades as one of the best handling cars in its class, setting the standards by which C class cars are judged. The Coupé-Cabriolet, according to Ford, will be no exception, and has been developed to be as agile, convenient, and reliable as the Focus name implies.


Too early for us to have an opportunity to put the The Focus Coupé-Cabriolet through its paces here,  I am eagerly waiting to test drive this car which is  a  example of Ford's current design and engineering direction: At Geneva it looked a stylish car in short, a car people will be proud to be seen in. The preview model is finished in a classy new exterior metallic colour – 'Luna' – which shows off the vehicle's elegant yet sporty exterior.
